Salon Success Academies prides itself on offering students many chances to express their creativity. The school has always held contests in the classroom, giving students an opportunity to practice their skills in a fun, competitive environment. This fall, the school took two contests to new level, and blended them with the Salon Success Academies Facebook page. By making the competitions more public, It students were able to share their creations more easily with family and friends. Salon Success Academies could not be more proud of the work our students have done for these recent contests!
During the month of September, the first Facebook contest was held. To enter the “Hollywood Hair” contest, students had to create a hairstyle during school hours that was based on a Hollywood theme. Over 50 students submitted entries to the contest! All of the submissions were posted in a Facebook photo album where other Salon Success Academies fans could view the images and vote for a people’s choice award. The photos received over 200 comments from fans, praising the hairstyles, and congratulating students on their hard work.
The People’s Choice award winner was a look designed by Melissa Kane. Her hairstyle and makeup evoked a “Hollywood pin-up” feel, and included large curls and red lips. The Grand Prize winner was Angelica Munoz. Her look incorporated ribbons and flowers into a large updo, with elaborate face paint to match.
With so much excitement and enthusiasm shown for the Hollywood Hair contest, Salon Success Academies held a Halloween Makeover contest during the month of October. This contest generated over 70 entries! Students made themselves look like everything from scary zombies to colorful cartoon characters.
The contest followed the same format, with Facebook fans voting on a People’s Choice award, in addition to a Grand Prize winner. Over the course of the contest, over 300 people left comments and voted on the entries!
The People’s Choice award winner was Raul Sandoval. He created a “Sexy Poison Ivy” look, based on the Batman character. His entry received 68 votes! The Grand Prize went to Luis De La Torre. He based his look on the character Jack, from the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” The judges believed that Luis was totally committed to his makeover, and clearly spent a lot of time re-creating the character. An honorable mention was also awarded to Jessica Ferguson, whose makeover designed to look like the Queen of Hearts.
Salon Success Academies looks forward to offering these types of contests to its Facebook fans more in the future. The students show tremendous skill and support for each other, creating a powerful online community of talented stylists!
